Tech Week is this week. Here is how to leave with footage you can use.
Hundreds of events, one week, and most of it disappears by Monday. What to film at Tech Week, what to skip, and how to have a recap out while people are still talking.
Tech Week is on across the Bay right now. Hundreds of events, every founder and VC in one place, and a whole lot of it gone by Monday. If you are hosting anything this week, this is the shortest guide we can write for getting footage out of it that still means something next quarter.
We covered Human Tech Week this year and had raw files back to the team in under twelve hours. The rules below are what made that possible. If you want the longer version, read how a same-day recap actually works.
Decide the job before the doors open
A Tech Week event is three different shoots depending on what the footage is for. A recap for social wants faces, energy and the room. A pipeline tool wants your founder saying one clear thing to camera. A recruiting film wants the team, not the stage.
Pick one. Tell the crew. Everything else gets shot if there is time, and usually there is, but the one job gets covered first and gets cut first.
Three things worth filming, in order
One: the founder on camera, before the event starts, when the room is empty and nobody is tired. Ninety seconds, three ideas, no script. That clip outlives the event. We wrote a short guide to doing this well.
Two: the one moment the event exists for. The demo, the announcement, the panel line everyone will quote. Know when it is happening and have a camera on it. Most event footage misses this because nobody told the crew which five minutes mattered.
Three: people reacting. Laughing, leaning in, talking after. This is what makes a recap feel like a place people wish they had been, which is the entire point of a recap.
What to skip
Full-length panel recordings nobody will watch. Wide shots of people eating. The sponsor wall. If it would not stop someone scrolling, it does not need a camera on it.
Ship it while it is still news
A Tech Week recap posted Friday gets shared. The same recap posted in three weeks is a rerun. Agree on the delivery before the shoot: raw selects the same day if that is part of the plan, a sixty-second cut within days, the founder clip whenever you want to run it.
If your event is later this week and none of this is set up, that is fixable today. Send the date and the goal and you will have a plan and a price back within 48 hours. You can see the Human Tech Week coverage on the work page.

How to speak better on camera as a founder
Nobody is born good on camera. Here is what we coach founders on before a founder story or executive interview, and what you can practice on your own this week.
One shoot, a month of content
The most expensive part of video is the day the camera comes out. Plan that day right and it feeds your channels for weeks.
